Emotionally-Charged Video Hits Airwaves!
Nashville, TN (January 21, 2011) -- This week, Great American Country (GAC) and The Country Network (TCN) add The Grascals' emotionally-charged video, "I Am Strong." Directed by industry veteran David Corlew (who makes his music video directing debut here), and produced by David Bennett (former head of TN Film Commission), the moving video features a special guest appearance by Country Music Hall of Fame member Dolly Parton.
"I Am Strong" was written by The Grascals' Jamie Johnson and his wife Susanne Mumpower-Johnson, along with close friend, Jenee Fleenor. The song was inspired by the stories of children being treated for cancer and other deadly diseases at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, TN, following a visit to the hospital made by Johnson, and Grascals Terry Smith and Terry Eldredge. The video was filmed there, and several young patients make appearances throughout the clip.
During Country Cares Radiothon last weekend in Memphis, The Grascals - Danny Roberts, Jeremy Abshire, Kristin Scott Benson, Jamie Johnson, Terry Eldredge and Terry Smith - posed with patient Ella at St. Jude's. (Credit: Jeremy Westby)
"The bottom line and the whole point of the video was to convey the song's message," Johnson says. "We didn't want to take anything away from the children or their stories, and I think we stayed true to that."
For Corlew, whose directing background has been mostly on the documentary side, the opportunity to direct The Grascals was "wonderful." But it was the interaction with the children of St. Jude's that he found the most moving. "I loved working with them," David adds. "Their smiles were 'the moment,' and they really seemed to enjoy themselves."
The video is impacting globally and airing on CMT.com, CMC (Australia), AOL, Yahoo, UsMag.com, and hundreds of other websites and the ACMLA website under Video Of The Month. A portion of the proceeds from the song will benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
"I Am Strong" is from THE GRASCALS & FRIENDS - Country Classics With A Bluegrass Spin disc, which debuted this week on the Billboard Bluegrass chart at #1. The project features the group singing duets with Brad Paisley, Dolly Parton, Dierks Bentley, Joe Nichols, Charlie Daniels, Tom T. Hall, The Oak Ridge Boys and Darryl Worley. The CD, released last week on BluGrascal Records, is exclusively available at Cracker Barrel Old Country Store and online HERE.
Luke Austen Wins Two Golden Guitars

On the release of Luke Austen’s debut album “Light Of Day”, popular country music publication Capital News had this to say about Luke Austen’s debut album “Light Of Day”. "In a scene crying out for a new hero, Luke Austen's timing with this outstanding album couldn't be better". Last Saturday night at the Tamworth Regional Entertainment Centre their belief in Luke was confirmed when he won two prestigious Golden Guitar Awards: Heritage Song Of The Year for “Sacred Bones” and Bush Ballad Of The Year for “Every Time He Travels Through Cloncurry”.
Luke Austen was the winner of last year’s Toyota Star Maker, the national talent search that launched the careers of Keith Urban, Lee Kernaghan, Samantha McClymont and many others. But Luke is no blow in. He earned his stripes touring the outback with country music icon Brian Young for four years before becoming a mainstay of Troy Cassar-Daley’s band from 2004 until now. He’s also written songs for Troy and Adam Harvey.
So it’s fitting that each of these awards has a connection to Luke’s story so far: “Every Time He Travels Through Cloncurry” is a tribute to Brian Young. “Sacred Bones”, the chilling true story of Luke’s father discovering aboriginal remains in a cave, was written by Luke and Troy Cassar-Daley and features Troy on harmony vocals and mandolin. Luke Austen has had a successful career as a sideman. He’s now on the way to a brilliant career of his own. Light Of Day is available now on Compass Bros Records.
Sell-Out In Tamworth For Keith Urban - tx

RECORD-BREAKING SELL-OUT FOR LONG-AWAITED RETURN TO TAMWORTH Friday, January 21, 2011. Tamworth, Australia’s home of country music, has spoken. It’s hot for Keith Urban!
Tickets for Urban’s Get Closer 2011 World Tour, which starts in Australia, went on sale nationally (except Queensland) today, first in Tamworth where sales opened an hour earlier at 8am AEDT. Within an hour, tickets for his April 12 appearance at the Tamworth Regional Entertainment & Conference Centre (TRECC) – the Tour’s third stop – were swept up, leaving many fans empty-handed.
A quick review of production requirements saw a small number of tickets released and the 5,000-plus venue was declared a sell-out within three hours. Fans showed their support for Urban’s long-awaited return, selling-out his Tamworth concert faster than any other in history. A festival atmosphere filled the town as line-ups spilled from the five local outlets open for the special 8am start time and the phones and internet ran hot.
Tourism Tamworth, responsible for ticket management at TRECC, said it was a record-breaking sell-out. “We’ve never sold out a show on the first day, let alone hours,” said Tourism Tamworth General Manager, Rebel Thomson. “It’s the fastest a concert has sold-out at TRECC. I think, next to this, a week has been the fastest sell-out and most concerts take a few weeks, if not longer.”
Managing Director of promoter, Chugg Entertainment, Matthew Lazarus-Hall, said, “The speed of the sales was fantastic. Keith is a long supporter of Tamworth and its music scene, his beginnings run deep there.”
Urban’s concerts in Sydney and Melbourne were close to selling out their gold-priced tickets at lunch, with silver tickets for both shows and gold and silver tickets in Adelaide still available. Due to the flood devastation, on-sale details for Urban’s Queensland concert remain pending. Urban will be joined on all Australian dates by the multi-platinum selling Lady Antebellum as the opening act.
An all-new stage production, matched with Urban’s unique hard-charging, captivating live performances, will make its debut in Australia for the start of his World Tour. “Keith’s legacy in Australia and the country’s ‘country music capital’ is cemented,” said Lazarus Hall. What a great return fans have pledged for him and we’re absolutely sure he will give back with the best concert Tamworth has ever seen.” All Keith's Tour Dates Can Be Found On This Website.

Talented YoungStars on stage in Tamworth – The Winners
The future of Australian country music seems well assured with the success of the first country music Battle of the YoungStars. A talented group of exciting young artists rolled up to the Coca-Cola Park in Tamworth for the inaugural “Battle” which was staged by festival and industry heavyweight Rural Press Events (RPE). RPE also organises the legendary Toyota Star Maker Quest, Buttercup Open Houses and other country music events. They are equally well known as publishers of Country Music Capital News, the Official Guide To The Tamworth Country Music Festival and the Directory of Australian Country Music.
More than 50 potential young stars lined up over five days to compete in heats for a range of titles and prizes. The entrants came from all over Australia and ranged up to 17 years old.
Inaugural winners of the Battle of the YoungStars are...
1st Overall Winner ASHLEY KNIGHT from Woy Woy NSW, 16 years, who was named Senior Winner
2nd Overall Winner KARRIE HAYWARD from Walkerston Qld, 12 years

The 1st Overall Winner received $300 prizemoney, automatic entry into the Generation Country Quest (formerly known as the Golden Saddles), with runners up receiving $100 and $50 respectively. They also won a subscription to Country Music Capital News - Australia’s number one country music magazine. Supplementary prizes were awarded to all finalists in the Senior, Intermediate and Junior sections.
Finalists were selected from heats were staged from Sunday to Thursday at Coca-Cola Park in the heart of Tamworth. A number of entrants and their families are first-time visitors to the Tamworth Festival. Organiser of the Battle of the YoungStars, RPE’s Kate Nugent, said she and co-ordinator Luci Smith were delighted with the response to the event and stunned by the quality of the contestants, many of whom sang traditional bush ballads as well as contemporary country songs. “These young people show exceptional talent,” she said. “We can be confident that in the future they will keep our country musically excellent and Australian to the core.” Further information available HERE and follow the links to talent quests.
Gregg Allman - First Solo Record In 14 Years Produced By T Bone Burnett
Courtesy Of Universal Music Australia
Rounder Records is excited to announce that Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame legend Gregg Allman will release his first solo record in 14 years on January 28, 2011. Called Low Country Blues for the coastal Georgia region Allman calls home, the record was produced by T Bone Burnett, recorded at his Village Recorder studio in Los Angeles and features Dr. John on piano, guitarist Doyle Bramhall II, and Burnett’s brilliant go-to rhythm section: bassist Dennis Crouch and drummer Jay Bellerose. Low Country Blues is Gregg Allman at his very best -- a self-assured, spirited collection that will stand as a major milestone in what is undeniably an exceptional career.
As a founding member of the Allman Brothers Band and in his own storied solo career, Allman has long been a gifted natural interpreter of the blues. His soulful and distinctive voice is one of the defining sounds in the history of American music. Low Country Blues finds him putting his own stamp on songs by some of the blues giants whose work has long informed his own, from Muddy Waters and BB King to Buddy Guy and Magic Sam.
Though constantly on the road, Allman has spent precious little time in the studio since the 2002 death of producer Tom Dowd -- the man behind the glass for much of his recorded career. Sceptical at first, Allman and Burnett quickly bonded and work began in January 2010. The powerhouse band – which of course also features Gregg’s own acoustic guitar expertise and trademark Hammond B-3 organ – cooks up an earthy and atmospheric musical stew infused with gritty R&B muscle, spooky Southern psychedelia, and greasy deep soul grooves.
Like any genuine bluesman, Allman’s own life has been colored by myriad triumphs and too many tragedies. Low Country Blues was initially slated for a mid-2010 release, but that plan changed when Gregg, who had long battled chronic Hepatitis C, was notified that he was a candidate for a liver transplant. In June 2010, he entered the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida where he successfully underwent the difficult surgery. Knowing that he had only just made one of the defining albums of his recorded career proved to be the best medicine, giving Allman the inner strength he needed to fully heal.
An inveterate road warrior, Allman is understandably itching to return to the endless highway. He spent the months following the surgery hitting both the gym and the rehearsal studio, working hard to restore his vitality to its requisite level. Moreover, Allman is justifiably proud of Low Country Blues and is eager to get out there to bring these songs to his countless fans. “When you have a new record it always feels different,” he says. “Man, you gotta get out there and move the muscles, you gotta move it and shake it.”
“It’s been too long,” he adds. “I guess I was just born with a lot of gypsy in my soul.”

Star Maker Winner Luke Dickens Joins The Line Up At Caboolture's Urban Country Music Festival
Courtesy Of Moreton Bay Regional Council
Luke Dickens will be headed to Caboolture to take the stage with some of the biggest names in the business at the Urban Country Music Festival, after he won the 2011 Toyota Star Maker competition at Tamworth on Sunday. Mayor Allan Sutherland congratulated Luke on his Star Maker win and said he was looking forward to hearing him sing at the Urban Country Music Festival’s Saturday night, April 30 concert. Luke will perform alongside American sensation Joe Nichols, James Reyne, The McClymonts and Jonah’s Road. Luke released his debut album Underdog last year. He became a household name among Australian Idol followers in 2008, when he was named runner up to competition winner Wes Carr.
As a Star Maker winner he follows in the footsteps of some of Australia’s best known country music names including Keith Urban, Lee Kernaghan, James Blundell and Gina Jeffreys. Although now based in Sydney’s Bondi, Luke is a country boy who left school at 16 to shear sheep in Young for nine years. Since his Australian Idol stint, Luke has toured Australia with Amber Lawrence, Luke Austen and Victoria Baillie. Last year he and his band kicked off his Underdog album tour by performing for the Australian troops in Afghanistan. Mayor Sutherland said Luke would be part of an exciting Urban Country Music Festival this year. “The Caboolture Historical Village will be the epicentre of Urban Country this year, because Caboolture’s Town Square is undergoing a transformation through the building of a new library, learning centre and art gallery complex,” the Mayor said. “And I can’t wait to see how the village’s old buildings add to the country atmosphere over the long weekend.”
“We have two ticketed concerts this year, both at Alexander Barr Sporting Complex. The More Country Than Urban concert on Saturday is aimed at country music fans, while Sunday’s More Urban Than Country concert features Evermore, Thirsty Merc, The Potbelleez, Amy Meredith, and our very own Sinead Burgess.” “Our early bird ticket offer closes on January 31, so if you want to see some of the biggest names, now is the time to take advantage of discounted prices. “For $100 you can see both concerts, or just see one for $55. From February 1, tickets will be $65 each for either concert.
Tickets to both Saturday and Sunday night’s concert can be purchased from council’s customer service centres, online HERE or by calling Moshtix on 1300 GET TIX. Plan your Urban Country Music Festival experience from April 29 to May 2 by visiting the festival website for all the latest information HERE. The festival, presented by Moreton Bay Regional Council, is supported by major sponsors Caboolture Shire Herald and Grand Prix Mazda.

Jimmy Barnes & David Campbell Lead Family Flood Relief Album
Courtesy Of Mushroom Group Promotions
Always on the front foot, Jimmy Barnes has confirmed plans for his family to help flood affected Australians by donating proceeds from the sales of an exclusive new album called ‘Floodlight’ to be donated to the Queensland Premier's Flood Relief Appeal. Available for a limited time only at just $4.99 on iTunes, the 16 track album includes contributions from Jimmy, son David Campbell, daughters Mahalia and EJ Barnes, brother John Swan, brother-in-law Diesel and son-in-law Ben Rodgers (The Middle Class).
The album also includes three previously unreleased live recordings by Jimmy, David Campbell and Mahalia Barnes from their performance at the Adelaide Cabaret Festival, and a rare solo recording by Jimmy from 1997 titled ‘Never Give You Up’. As Jane Barnes says, “Jimmy and I and all the members of our family truly believe that this is simply about a sense of community. It is about Australian families helping other Australian families in their time of need in whatever way they can. We are fortunate enough to be able to make and share our music and if we can help the victims of these floods by doing that then it’s a very small price to pay”.
David was one of the first Australian Artists to agree to perform at the Nine Networks appeal for the Queensland floods last Sunday week where he sang ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ and announced the release of the ‘Floodlight’ album. David adds “Like most Australian's, once I saw what was happening, I wanted to help. The Floodlights concept was my Dad's idea and it’s our family doing our bit to help other families. I am honoured to be a part of this.”
Similarly, Mark Lizotte (aka Diesel) tours relentlessly and spends a lot of his time playing to both metropolitan and rural Australian audiences. Diesel has contributed two songs, the second of which is a brand new recording which will feature on his forthcoming album ‘7 Axes To Grind’.
In Mark’s words “From blues to rock to swing, Floodlight has something for everyone.”

Cracker Barrel And The Grascals Celebrate #1 Debut On Billboard Bluegrass Chart
Courtesy Of SoMuchMooreMedia USA
Exclusive CD "The Grascals & Friends - Country Classics with a Bluegrass Spin" also lands on five other charts including Country, Heatseekers, and Billboard Top 200
LEBANON, Tenn. (January 19, 2011) Cracker Barrel Old Country Store and The Grascals are pleased to celebrate the #1 debut of The Grascals & Friends - Country Classics with a Bluegrass Spin on the Billboard Top Bluegrass Albums chart (issue date January 29, 2011). The album also entered the Billboard Top Country Albums chart at #26, the Heatseekers chart at #2, the Independent chart at #15, the Billboard 200 at #113, and the Top Current Billboard 200 at #108.
The album has 13 country music songs. The Grascals bring their own bluegrass style to the tunes and bring the different tracks to life with eight of their friends, including Brad Paisley, Dierks Bentley, Charlie Daniels and Dolly Parton. The track, "I Am Strong," was written by Grascals band member Jamie Johnson and his wife Susanne Mumpower-Johnson along with Jenee Fleenor after The Grascals visited the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and were inspired by the stories and power of the children being treated there. "I Am Strong" is powerful in its message and in its artistic vision and brings together vocals from all of the artists who also appear separately with the Grascals on other tracks on this CD. In honor of the children and this song, Cracker Barrel is donating a percentage of the proceeds. The CD is now available exclusively at Cracker Barrel Old Country Store and online at crackerbarrel.com.
"This is just icing on the cake ... like Cracker Barrel gravy on the biscuit!" said bass player Terry Smith. He added, "The relationship has been so great thus far. Hopefully the sales and great partnership will continue in kind. Also, I wish Friday fish fry was seven days a week!" "This is something we've looked forward to for so long," said mandolin player Danny Roberts. He added, "It's doing so well, so quickly. The added bonus of it benefiting St. Jude makes it all the better."
"This is a great achievement and we congratulate The Grascals," said Chris Ciavarra, Senior Vice President of Marketing for Cracker Barrel. "We are very pleased to see the strength of this CD's debut and think that it speaks to the quality of the music, the authenticity of the musicians, and it shows what a good fit this is with our guests." The Grascals, fresh off of a year packed with over 150 shows, are in the running for 10 of the 37th Annual SPBGMA Awards including Instrumental Group of the Year, Vocal Group of the Year, Bluegrass Band of the Year, and Entertaining Group of the Year. In addition, the Grascals' new video, "I Am Strong" featuring Dolly Parton, premiered in mid-December on AOL.
The Grascals & Friends - Country Classics With A Bluegrass Spin is the latest in Cracker Barrel's exclusive music program, which features numerous projects. In November of 2010, Cracker Barrel released Smokey Robinson's Now & Then which features six of his current songs and live versions of six of his classics that were recorded last year. It debuted at #19 on Billboard magazine's R&B chart and has been nominated for Outstanding Album in the 2011 NAACP IMAGE AWARDS. September saw the release of the self-titled Rodney Atkins, which includes four #1 hits, and also the release of Mandy Barnett's Winter Wonderland, which offers up all the authentic sounds of the holiday traditions so many of us cherish. In July, the company released Craig Morgan's That's Why-Collector's Edition, and in May the release of Wynonna's Love Heals debuted at #7 on the Billboard Magazine Top Country Albums chart. February's release of Dailey & Vincent Sing the Statler Brothers debuted at #1 on Billboard's Top Bluegrass Albums chart, where it spent nine weeks in the top position and 18 weeks overall in one of the three top positions since its release on February 1st. Releases in 2009 included November's Songs of Love and Heartache by Alan Jackson, September's release of an exclusive new version of The Foundation by the Zac Brown Band, August's George Jones' release of A Collection Of My Best Recollection, May's release of Montgomery Gentry's For Our Heroes, which debuted at #5 on Billboard Magazine's Top Country Albums chart, and March's release of Dolly Parton's Collector's Edition of Backwoods Barbie, which debuted at #9 on that chart. Over the last few years, Cracker Barrel has released exclusive CD's with Bill Gaither, Kenny Rogers, Ricky Skaggs, Aaron Tippin, Alison Krauss & Union Station, Josh Turner, Amy Grant, Sara Evans, and Charlie Daniels.

THE ROYS "Get Their Boots On" - Join The Boot Campaign To Support Returning Servicemen & Women "When They Come Back, We Give Back" Is Organization's Motto Nashville, TN (January 20, 2011) -- Brother/sister duo,
THE ROYS, "get their boots on" as they join the ranks of entertainers, politicians, sports figures and actors who are supporting returning servicemen and women by purchasing (and wearing)
Altama combat boots through the nationally-recognized
BOOTS ON campaign. Other celebrities already on board include:
Charlie Daniels, Joe Nichols, Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders, Nolan Ryan, Gretchen Wilson, Detroit Red Wings, Texas Governor Rick Perry, Glenn Beck and many more.
The Boot Campaign is a grassroots initiative started by five women from
Texas known as the
Boot Girls. Through their organization, they have provided an easy and tangible way for
Americans to show support of our troops (both past and present) that's practical and directly benefits our military. Proceeds from boot and merchandise sales are donated to partner
charities including
THE LONE SURVIVOR FOUNDATION, WOUNDED WEAR and
NOT ALONE.
These organizations assist returning veterans who are dealing with
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and varying degrees of physical injuries. "They give so much for us every day," says
Lee Roy of our troops. "The least we can do is promise that when they come back, we give back."
THE ROYS hope to help
The Boot Campaign reach its goal of 1 million pair of boots sold - soon. "We were thrilled to perform at the
Veteran's Day NOT ALONE Benefit Show in
Nashville last year," says
Elaine Roy.
"Boots On allows us to do even more."
ABOUT THE ROYS THE ROYS have recently signed with
Rural Rhythm Records and will release their first
CD for the imprint in
March. The two-time
Inspirational Country Music Duo of the Year (2010, 2009) traveled to
Bogota, Columbia on an outreach mission for
Compassion International (a group for which they are spokespersons) last year, and made their national television debut on the most-recent
Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy Telethon in
Las Vegas.
Lee and
Elaine enjoyed extensive media exposure throughout
2010, including features in
People and Country Weekly.
